BRASS JEWELLERY

Brass jewellery is an alloy of zinc and copper, all pieces are polished so that they are shiny when you get them. Over time, the brass will become dull or tarnish a bit. Tarnishing happens to brass when the metal gets wet, whether it is worn in the shower or from our body perspiration which is completely natural.

Brass jewellery tarnishes and develops more of a patina. Patina is a greenish color that covers over a layer of the brass. When this happens, it may or may not be desirable to you. If you wish to keep the patina colouring in your jewellery, just wash it with soapy water. Cleaning the brass jewellery with soap and water helps to remove dirt and oils built up on your item.

If you want to remove tarnish from your brass jewellery all you need is some toothpaste and an old toothbrush. Just brush your brass jewellery with toothpaste, rinse and dry. The abrasive properties in toothpaste are wonderful for cleaning brass.

SILVER JEWELLERY

Sometimes i like to use a dark patina on my silver jewellery. This patina will brighten over time and look less dark. If this is something that concerns you then we offer a darkening service free of charge. Just pop your piece in the post and we will add that dark patina back to your your jewellery.

Silver jewellery can also be cleaned with warm soapy water and a toothbrush. Be sure to dry all pieces well and store in an airtight container.
